Traveling to Tarrytown, New York for the New York DAR State Conference was an unforgettable experience, made even more special by having my wife, Mimi, by my side. Not only did we meet incredible individuals passionate about preserving American history, but we also had the privilege of experiencing one of the most historic places in our nation—West Point.
Thanks to Jennifer Voigtschild, a New York Daughter and retired Lieutenant Colonel and Command Historian at West Point, we were treated to an amazing tour of our nation’s oldest military academy. Walking the same grounds that have shaped America’s greatest military leaders was humbling, but one moment stood out above all.
On the wall of the West Point chapel, I found a plaque honoring Dr. Joseph Warren—recognizing him as one of America’s generals who served in the Revolutionary War. Though Warren died at Bunker Hill on June 17, 1775—over a year before the signing of the Declaration of Independence—his sacrifice was not forgotten. Seeing his name etched in history at West Point was a powerful reminder of why I continue to share his story.
A huge thank you to Jennifer Voigtschild and the New York DAR for an incredible conference and an experience I will always treasure! 🇺🇸
