There’s nothing quite like stepping into a 5th-grade classroom and watching history come to life! As part of the Give Me Liberty Program in Southern Utah, I’ve had the privilege of visiting schools where students get to experience 1770s Boston firsthand—thanks to the incredible efforts of local Daughters of the American Revolution volunteers who help set the scene.
During my visit, I introduce students to Dr. Joseph Warren, a true but often forgotten patriot, and explore what it meant to be a young patriot in the 1770s—and how those same traits apply to kids today. But of course, no revolutionary tale is complete without a little drama! King George and General Gage—brilliantly played by teachers—emerge from the crowd to try and foil the secret plans being made at the Green Dragon Tavern.
Seeing young students light up as they connect with these pivotal moments in history is always a highlight for me. Thank you to the schools, teachers, the DAR volunteers and the Give Me Liberty Program who makes these visits possible—it’s an honor to share the story of Dr. Warren and inspire the next generation of patriots! 🇺🇸
